Arca delicatula was named by Casey (1903) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 997, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Anadara (Scapharca) delicatula by Schenck and Reinhart (1938); it was recombined as Scapharca (Scapharca) delicatula by Dockery (1982).
