Pentaceros pustuliferus was named by Fraas (1886). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Lectotype AS I 825, Bayerische Saatssammlung für Paläontologie und historische Geologie.
It was recombined as Lithaster pustuliferus by Hess (1977); it was recombined as Pentaceros (Oreaster) pustuliferus by Hess (1975), Hess (1991).
