Taxonomy
Scaphiopus diversus was named by Taylor (1942). Its type specimen is KUVP 6368, a set of vertebrae (Sacral vertebra and coccyx), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Spea diversus by Tihen (1960).

Synonyms
  • Neoscaphiopus noblei was named by Taylor (1942). Its type specimen is KUVP 6367, a set of vertebrae (parts of the fused coccyx, sacral vertebra, and first presacral vertebra), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Neoscaphiopus.

    It was recombined as Scaphiopus (Neoscaphiopus) noblei by Zweifel (1956); it was synonymized subjectively with Spea diversus by Tihen (1960).
