Turbo semicostatus was named by Montagu (1803) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Mediterranean, Northern Europe.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cingula (Cingula) semicostata by van Regteren Altena (1965); it was recombined as Onoba semicostata by Fretter and Graham (1978), Marquet (1997).
