Mitreola was named by Swainson (1833) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 614; =Enaeata H. and A. Adams [Darragh 1989]].

It was assigned to Volutinae by Darragh (1989); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Lyriini by Merle and Pacaud (2014); and to Volutidae by Darragh (2017).
