Australoscutula ardua

Taxonomy
Australoscutula ardua was named by Cook et al. (2007). Its type specimen is QMF 49522, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Marohn. Yoo Loc. 28. 150 m west of Marohn homestead, which is in a Tournaisian carbonate limestone in the Dangarfield Formation of Australia. It is the type species of Australoscutula.

A. Cook et al. 2007Australoscutula species with patelliform, high conical teleoconch with steep flanks; protoconch relatively small, slender.

Shell steeply patelliform, 1.3 mm high, maximum diameter of 1.6 mm; protoconch at apex in subcentral position with axis nearly perpendicular to apertural plane of teleoconch; protoconch apex pointing downward towards teleoconch aperture; protoconch narrowly turbiniform, comprising more than two whorls; 0.28 mm high (from apex to base) and 0.17 mm wide; first whorl of protoconch tightly coiled with diameter of 0.14 mm; protoconch smooth without conspicuous ornament; base of protoconch round, convex; transition to teleoconch abrupt with rapid expansion of teleoconch after transition; early teleoconch coils such that limpet grows almost in direction of apex of protoconch; teleoconch sides not straight but irregular; teleoconch ornament consists of numerous distinct concentric growth lines; inner side of limpet without remains of columella and clear traces of muscle attachment scars.
