Paraborsonia was named by Pilsbry (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 549].

It was reranked as Borsonia (Paraborsonia) by Mansfield (1925).

It was assigned to Borsonia by Mansfield (1925); to Borsoniinae by Woodring (1970); to Turridae by Todd (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Borsoniidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
