Taxonomy
Litanaia was named by Maslov (1956). It is not extant. Its type is Litanaia mira.

It was assigned to Udotoideae by Johnson (1964); to Codiaceae by Andrews (1970) and Fenninger (1983); and to Chlorophyta by Buggisch and Fluegel (1992).
