Columbella (Mitrella) fallax was named by Hörnes and Auinger (1880) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; central Paratethys.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Pyrene (Mitrella) fallax by Glibert (1952); it was recombined as Mitrella (Atilia) fallax by Kojumdgieva and Strachimirov (1960); it was recombined as Columbella (Atilia) fallax by Strausz (1966); it was recombined as Pyrene (Atilia) fallax by Baluk (1995), Harzhauser (2002).
