Cerithium petrosum was named by Wood (1828) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; west Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cerithium (Ptychocerithium) petrosum by Abrard (1946); it was recombined as Clypeomorus petrosum by Hendy (2007).
