Arene (Marevalvata) was named by Olsson and Harbison (1953). It is extant. Its type is Architectonica tricarinata.

It was reranked as Marevalvata by Sepkoski (2002), Landau et al. (2016).

It was assigned to Arene by Weisbord (1962), Todd (2001); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Areneidae by Landau et al. (2016).
