Taxonomy
Murex tulipa was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; western Atlantic]. It is extant. It is the type species of Fasciolaria.

It was recombined as Fasciolaria tulipa by Olsson (1922), Woodring (1964), Snyder (2003) and Snyder et al. (2012).
