Ranella margaritula was named by Deshayes (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Bursa margaritula by Schepman (1909); it was recombined as Bursa (Bursa) margaritula by van Regteren Altena (1942); it was recombined as Chasmotheca margaritula by Habe and Kosuge (1966); it was recombined as Bufonaria margaritula by Okutani (2000); it was recombined as Bufonaria (Bufonaria) margaritula by Beu (1987), Beu (2005).
