Unitas was named by Harris and Palmer (1947) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u T Mi-m Sepkoski's reference number: 530,614,909].

It was assigned to Cancellariinae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cancellariidae by Harris and Palmer (1947), Schnetler and Petit (2006), Darragh (2017).
