Taxonomy
Arca scalaris was named by Conrad (1844) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Late Pliocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Scapharca scalaris by Conrad (1863); it was recombined as Scapharca (Cunearca) scalaris by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Arca (Cunearca) scalaris by Mansfield (1932); it was recombined as Anadara (Cunearca) scalaris by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Cunearca scalaris by Ward (1992).
