Aviculopecten appalachianus
Taxonomy
Aviculopecten appalachianus was named by Hoare et al. (1978). Its type specimen is OSU 27275, a shell (left valve), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Vel-2. The abandoned strip mine SW¼, Sec. 26, Elk Township, which is in a Desmoinesian marine shale in the Vanport Formation of Ohio.
