Placopterina ohioensis

Taxonomy
Placopterina ohioensis was named by Hoare et al. (1978). Its type specimen is OSU 27233., a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is LIm-1. Float by radio tower on Bald Knob, which is in an Atokan carbonate shale/limestone in the Pottsville Formation of Ohio.

Hoare et al. 1978Shell small, nearly equivalved, moderately inequilateral; hinge line straight; beaks small, prosogyrate, raised slightly above the hinge line; anterior auricle small, meeting dorsal margin in an obtuse angle; anterior margin uniformly convex and posterior margin meeting dorsal margin at right angle and having less convexity than anterior margin; posterior auricle a broad winglike structure not set off from body of shell; valve surfaces marked by numerous closely spaced fine lines of growth, with no evidence of any radial ornamentation; both valves with the same ornamentation; shell thin.
