Imonautilus meeki

Taxonomy
Imonautilus meeki was named by Niko and Mapes (2007). Its type specimen is OUZC 5236, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 1. USGS 14369. Road cut on se side US 65, 0.8 km sw of Peyton Creek Bridge, which is in a Serpukhovian offshore grainstone/shale in the Imo Formation of Arkansas. It is the type species of Imonautilus.

Mapes 2007Coiled genus of trigonoceratids, evolute without strong compression; juvenile shell Stroboceras-like with shallow ventral groove, but ventral groove becomes reduced at or near maturity on the roundly inflated venter; ventrolateral and lateral grooves and ventral ridges strong in juvenile conch, but become obsolescent or subdued with maturity; profiles of adoral whorls are subsemicircular to depressed suboval, with width/height ratios attaining 1.11; umbilical angle well defined in adoral whorls; dorsal (contact) groove shallow and narrow; adoral growth lines are not accentuated as in Stroboceras; sutures with shallow lateral lobes; siphuncle subcentral.
