Xenophora paulinae was named by Nielsen and DeVries (2002) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Peru.]. Its type specimen is SMF 323042, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Punta Perro [Navidad Fm], which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in Chile.
