Ostrea transitoria was named by Hupé (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Chile.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Crassostrea transitoria by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).

Synonyms
  • Ostrea maxima was named by Hupé (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Chile. TYPE SPECIMEN: based on syntype.]. Its type specimen is MNHN-Gg2002/88, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Crassostrea transitoria by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
