Taxonomy

Strombus ambiguus was named by Solander in Brander (1766) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Athleta ambiguus by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Athleta (Volutospina) ambiguus by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
