Taxonomy

Pecten patagonensis was named by d'Orbigny (1842) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Argentina/]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Myochlamys patagonensis by Ihering (1907); it was recombined as Chlamys patagonensis by Camácho (1967); it was recombined as Chesapecten patagonensis by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).

Synonyms

Chesapecten crassus was named by del Rio (1992) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Argentina.]. Its type specimen is CPBA 15.107, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is LPP8 - Puerto Madryn Fm, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in the Puerto Madryn Formation of Argentina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chesapecten patagonensis by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
