Aturia colombiana was named by Anderson (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Colombia.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is El Carmen, 6 mi. SW of (Horizon F), which is in a Bartonian coastal shale/sandstone in Colombia.
It was synonymized subjectively with Aturia peruviana by Miller and Furnish (1939).
