Rimella canalis
Taxonomy
Strombus canalis was named by Coquebert and Brongniart (1793) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. Its type specimen is MNHN.F.A51121, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Brongniart collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France. It is the type species of Ectinochilus, Rimetella.
It was recombined as Rostellaria canalis by Swainson (1840); it was recombined as Rimella (Ectinochilus) canalis by Cossmann (1889); it was recombined as Dientomochilus (Ectinochilus) canalis by Cossmann and Pissarro (1911); it was recombined as Rimetella canalis by Hanna (1924); it was recombined as Ectinochilus canalis by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was recombined as Rimella canalis by Cossmann (1892) and Squires (2013).
