Eoscopus was named by Daly (1994). Its type is Eoscopus lockardi.
It was assigned to Amphibamidae by Schoch and Rubidge (2005), Anderson et al. (2008), Bourget and Anderson (2011); to Temnospondyli by Maddin et al. (2012); to Micropholidae by Schoch et al. (2021); and to Amphibamiformes by Schoch (2019), Schoch and Milner (2021).
