Taxonomy
Ostrea gryphina was named by Deshayes (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pycnodonte gryphina by Glibert (1975); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte) gryphina by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
