Taxonomy
Petrocrania septifera was named by Cooper and Grant (1974). Its type specimen is USNM 151422, a valve, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM731, Pinyon Tank, Guadalupe Mountains, which is in a Wordian slope limestone in the Bell Canyon Formation of Texas.
