Neochonetes (Sommeria) tenuicapillatus was named by Archbold (1981). Its type specimen is NMVP 60731, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Neochonetes (Sommeriella) tenuicapillatus by Archbold (1982).
