Taxonomy
Stellispongiella amplia was named by Rigby and Senowbari-Daryan (1996). Its type specimen is USNM 463657 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Newell 1973 spot locality 13B, Denguir, Djebel Tebaga, which is in a Capitanian marine horizon in the Saikra Biohermal Complex Formation of Tunisia.
