Troedssonoceras was named by Foerste (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara S Ldov Sepkoski's reference number: 298].

It was assigned to Ormoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964), Crick (1981); and to Actinocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
