Taxonomy
Hercoglossa tuomeyi was named by Clark and Martin (1901) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Popes Creek (Johns Hopkins collection), which is in a Ypresian transition zone/lower shoreface sandstone in the Nanjemoy Formation of Maryland.
