Taxonomy
Palaeaster miamiensis was named by Miller (1880). Its type specimen is Holotype NMNH PAL 40880 and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Anorthaster.

It was recombined as Anorthaster miamiensis by Schuchert (1915).
