Proendoceras was named by Flower (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Proterocameroceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Proterocameratidae by Crick (1981); and to Endocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
