Avonia cylindrica was named by Ustritsky (1960).
It was recombined as Liosotella cylindrica by Jin and Ye (1979), Sun (1991); it was recombined as Pseudoavonia cylindrica by Chen and Shi (2006), Shen et al. (2017).
