Liodon curtirostris was named by Cope (1871).
It was recombined as Lestosaurus curtirostris by Marsh (1872), Hay (1902); it was recombined as Platecarpus curtirostris by Cope (1874), Cope (1875), Hay (1930), Thurmond (1969), Thurmond and Jones (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Platecarpus ictericus by Russell (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Platecarpus tympaniticus by Konishi et al. (2010).
