Bauchioceras (Wrightoceras) was named by Reyment (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 716]. Its type is Bauchioceras (Wrightoceras) wallsi.

It was Pseudotissotia (Wrightoceras) by Reyment (1955), Barber (1957), Meister (1989); it was reranked as Wrightoceras by Chancellor (1982), Kennedy et al. (1987), Zaborski (1987), Kennedy and Simmons (1991), Chancellor et al. (1994), Wright et al. (1996), Sepkoski (2002), Meister et al. (2003), Barroso-Barcenilla and Goy (2007), Kennedy et al. (2008).

It was assigned to Bauchioceras by Reyment (1954); to Vascoceratidae by Zaborski (1987); to Pseudotissotia by Reyment (1955), Barber (1957), Meister (1989); to Pseudotissotinae by Kennedy and Simmons (1991); to Pseudotissotiidae by Chancellor et al.
