Taxonomy
Buchiceras (Sphenodiscus) belviderensis serpentinus was named by Cragin (1900) [Originaly published as a variety of Sphenodiscus belviderensis Originaly published as var. of Sphenodiscus belviderensis. DISTRIBUTION: Albian; Texas.]. Its type specimen is USNM 29401c, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sphenodiscus serpentinus by Cragin (1900); it was recombined as Engonoceras serpentinum by Mancini (1982) and Kennedy (2005); it was recombined as Engonoceras serpentinum by Hyatt (1903), Kennedy et al. (1998), Lucas and Estep (1998), Kennedy (2004) and El Qot (2018).
