Turoceras was named by Zhuravleva (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: S u D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 299,1066].

It was assigned to Polyelasmoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Discosorida by Sepkoski (2002).
