Taxonomy
Ammonites cala was named by Forbes (1846) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian-Maastrichtian; Antarctica, southern Africa.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pondicherry, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone/claystone in the Valudavur Formation of India.

It was recombined as Lytoceras (Tetragonites) cala by Anderson (1902); it was recombined as Saghalinites cala by Spath (1953), Klinger (1985), Kennedy (1986), Kennedy and Henderson (1992), Kennedy and Bilotte (1995).
