Taxonomy
Heteroceras hornbyense was named by Whiteaves (1876). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nostoceras hornbyense by Usher (1952), Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Didymoceras hornbyense by Reyment (1955), Matsumoto (1960), Jones (1963), Howarth (1965), Zaborski (1985).
