Taxonomy
Phylloceras ellipticum was named by Kossmat (1895) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenomanian; Cosmopolitan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Phylloceras (Hypophylloceras) subalpinum ellipticum by Kennedy and Klinger (1977); it was recombined as Hypophylloceras ellipticum by Young (1977); it was recombined as Phylloceras (Hypophylloceras) ellipticum by Wright and Kennedy (1984).
