Taxonomy
Ammonites leptonema was named by Sharpe (1855) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenomanian; Europe, Greenland.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Mesogaudryceras.

It was recombined as Mesogaudryceras leptonema by Arkadiev et al. (2000); it was recombined as Gaudryceras (Mesogaudryceras) leptonema by Wright and Kennedy (1984), Kennedy (1994), Kennedy et al. (2024).
