Scaphites gibbus was named by Schlüter (1872) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian; Europe, central Asia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trachyscaphites gibbus by Atabekyan and Khakimov (1976); it was recombined as Scaphites (Scaphites) gibbus by Kennedy (1986), Kennedy (1993).
