Taxonomy
Chouteauoceras was named by Miller and Garner (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is the type genus of Chouteauoceratinae.

It was assigned to Trigonoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chouteauoceratinae by Korn (2025).
