Holcodiscus stantoni was named by McLellan (1927) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Cretaceous; Pacific Coast, North America.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Homolsomites stantoni by Imlay (1956), Imlay (1960).
