Polyptychites (Propolyptychites) tenuicostatus was named by Kemper (1968) [DISTRIBUTION: Valanginian; Europe, Greenland.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Paratollia tenuicostata by Jeletzky and Kemper (1988); it was synonymized subjectively with Euryptychites (Propolyptychites) quadrifidus by Bogomolov (1989); it was recombined as Virgatoptychites (Propolyptychites) tenuicostatus by Alsen (2006).
