Polyptychites ascendens was named by Koenen (1902) [DISTRIBUTION: Valanginian; Greenland, Germany.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Siberites ascendens by Bogomolov (1989); it was recombined as Polyptychites (Polyptychites) ascendens by Alsen (2006).
