Taxonomy

Uraster hirudo was named by Forbes (1848). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Palaeaster hirudo by Salter (1857), Wright (1863); it was recombined as Urasterella hirudo by Schuchert (1915); it was recombined as Urosoma hirudo by Spencer (1930), Spencer (1934), Owen (1965), Lewis et al. (2007); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Urasterella by Blake and Koniecki (2020).
