Taxonomy
Brancoceras orbignyi was named by Spath (1922) [Type secimen: Ammonites varicosus Sowerby; d'Orbigny, 1841, 294, pl. 87, fig. 3 only. Distribution: Early Upper Albian.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hysteroceras orbignyi by Spath (1934), Haas (1942), Reyment (1955), Förster (1975), Renz (1982), Mosavinia et al. (2014).
