Boliteceras was named by Whitehouse (1928). Its type is Ammonites daintree.

It was synonymized subjectively with Beudanticeras by Kennedy and Klinger (2012).

It was assigned to Desmoceratidae by Whitehouse (1928); to Beudanticeratinae by Wright et al. (1996); and to Uhligellinae by Latil et al. (2023).
